The use of simple numeric tools can go a long way to achieving objective hiring decisions. For example, prepare a score card for each candidate and each interview. The score card should include the job criteria, numerical scores to grade candidate comments regarding each criteria, and a place for the total score and percentage grade. Let’s assume that there are 10 criteria that will be graded one through five for a possible score of fifty. Let’s also assume that a candidate received a score of four for each criterion for a total score of forty or eighty percent. Now you have an objective measure of each criterion and an overall objective rating for the candidate. All interviewers should complete score cards for all candidate interviews.
